Origin story

Built by a developer who got tired of debugging blind

Modern error tracking tools are powerful, but they can feel too heavy, complex, or expensive, especially for smaller teams and independent developers.

  1. // 01. THE PROBLEM

An error message alone rarely tells the full story

After years of building production applications, I kept seeing the same problem. The hardest part is understanding what happened before the failure.

    • Where did it happen?
    • What was the user doing?
    • What changed?
    • How can we reproduce it?

Retrace Kit was built to answer these questions.

  2. // 02. THE MISSION

    Understanding over just collecting

Most error trackers focus on collecting errors. Retrace Kit focuses on understanding them.

The goal is simple: help developers quickly retrace the steps that led to a failure and fix issues with the right context.

    • Browser and Node.js SDKs
    • Real-time error tracking
    • AI-powered issue summaries
    • User sessions and breadcrumbs
    • Release tracking
    • Developer-focused dashboard
    • Simple setup in minutes
  3. // 03. THE FOUNDER

    The person behind Retrace Kit

I'm a software engineer with 10+ years of experience building web applications and production systems.

I created Retrace Kit as an independent project after experiencing the same frustrations with real-world applications: production bugs that were easy to fix once you understood the context, but extremely difficult to diagnose without it.

I wanted to build a tool that is lightweight, transparent, and focused on what developers actually need when something breaks.

  4. // 04. INDEPENDENT

    Built independently, by a developer

Retrace Kit is a bootstrapped, independent project.

No large team. No unnecessary complexity. Just a developer building a tool to solve a problem I personally faced.

Every part of Retrace Kit, from the SDKs to the dashboard and infrastructure, is built from scratch with a focus on speed, simplicity, and developer experience.

  5. // 05. THE NAME

    Why "Retrace Kit"?

The name comes from the idea of retracing the steps that led to an error.

Debugging is not only about finding where something failed. It is about understanding the story behind the failure.

Retrace Kit helps developers reconstruct that story.
